oodles of doodles

I suspect that my recent flow of creative energy is thanks to crazy amount of brain capacity I am using for Masters and my recent solo show. Its as though all my painterly creative urges have been surpressed in the in the interest of study and work and now, as soon as I picked up the pen and brush again, out if came! i'm filling journal after journal and these quick shots were taken from my latest journal, all painted on the same day. I'm liking the colour scheme, and drawing some interesting visual conclusions from these little brainwave sketches. hmm..

I am getting really excited about the opening of my first performance solo show this Sunday. It has been a very long time coming and I'm thrilled that the time is finally here. My friend and colleague at fivethousand Steph wrote a lovely little review (pictured second). Visit fivethousand hereto read on. It is also important to note that I will only perform this work once, at the opening at 2.30pm, so local audiences who are very keen to see it must make sure to visit at this time otherwise they'll miss the action. Can't wait! Now I'm off to the studio to handbind all 100 catalogs I'm making for the exhibition, wish me luck!

showing in Les Dessinatrices

A wonderful exhibition opened at Espionage Gallery last Thursday which I am honored and very excited to be a part of, titled 'Les Dessinatrices', (international all-female illustration exhibition) They have already sold two framed editions of my A3 sized print With You I Can Be Myself, which I framed in a nice thin wooden frame. The show is on for another week, so local visitors still have some time!

times of late & record etsy sales

Just a quick post of an excited nature today, written with a beautiful jasmine & pear cup of tea in hand, and a cool breeze moving through the house. This last month has been super-duper busy, with a couple more exhibitions under my belt, and my first 2 assignments done for Masters. Yay! Currently I am preparing for two more group shows at Espionage Gallery, then my big solo show at Seedling in May. Busy busy! Then yesterday, to top it all off I received my biggest single etsy order to date. A whole bunch of prints and a little vase! Yay! Anyhow, I will keep the positive vibes going and try and get a little more sleep in order to get through the coming times. Hope everything is swell in all corners of the blogosphere x

Living A Life that I Can't Leave Behind - Exhibition Opening @ Reading Room

My friend and fellow blogger Steph (mayhem & miscellany) put on a little exhibition of experimental photographs which we took through travels in Europe and North America. The central idea was that of being tied to a place, and not quite being able to let go. So this exhibition was supposed to be intimate, and cathartic, a practice of exorcising the nostalgia. The opening was last Thursday on the 22nd, at the Reading Room in Adelaide, SA. It was a really lovely night, and we had lots of people come and check out the show. I put up photos I took with my Diana F+ and Splitzer lens during my 9 month sojourn through Europe, and my one month of travel through the States and Canada in February 2012. I mixed and matched photos through weaving threads of stories around them that connect and intertwine recurring themes and ideas. I provided a little paragraph of writing about each pair, which got a terrific response. The feedback from the show was great, and I had a lovely time. I am also quite enamored with Steph's magical shots of Denmark. Her love of this country definitely glows through the photographs. I think our work looked really good together, and I'm very glad we could make it happen. Big thanks to Kat and the volunteer crew at the Reading Room. Show is on til the 13th of April, so locals still have plenty of time to check it out.

New York, New York

My long journey to New York began bright and early, and despite the two days of travel, I arrived on the same day as I left. Thats right, I watched the sun rise twice yesterday! The travel was quite arduous, but more enjoyable than I anticipated. I arrived fresher than I thought I would, and rose early despite sleeping only 5 or so hours over the 2 days. These are the first few images I took on my morning walk through SoHo, which then turned into a walk over Brooklyn Bridge and then all over Manhattan. And so it was only an hour ago at half eight that I returned to my Queens home with sore feet and a camera fat with over 100 photos. Now I am off with the roomies for a Mexican dinner. Goodnight!

the lady with the rain in her hair

Last night I experienced one of those creative surges artists long for. The kind where you take some time, experiment and then bang out some really solid work. I love it when this happens, especially when I am able to mix various media together like paper collage, charcoal, pencil and graphite. I called this piece 'The Lady with the Rain in her Hair' and she is one of my most favourite pieces I have made yet! I hope she heralds a great year of making for 2012. I made her for the 1 Year Anniversary Exhibition at Espionage Gallery. She is also available in two sizes in my etsy shop.
